INTRO
When most people think of Hendersonville, NC, they think of apple orchards, mountain views, and small-town charm. What they don’t always expect to find is a plate of golden, hand-breaded Wienerschnitzel or a steaming bowl of authentic German Currywurst – but that’s exactly what’s waiting for you at Guidon Brewing Restaurant.
We’re not your average brewpub. We’re a veteran-owned, family-operated restaurant that takes food just as seriously as we take our craft beer. And at the heart of our menu is something a little unexpected for Western North Carolina – a genuine love of German cuisine, made from scratch, made with skill, and made to bring people together.
Whether you’re a Hendersonville local, driving in from Asheville, or passing through on your way to Brevard, here’s everything you need to know about our German menu – and why it’s worth making the trip.
WHAT MAKES GERMAN FOOD SO GOOD?
German cuisine doesn’t get nearly enough credit. It’s bold, hearty, and deeply satisfying – built around quality ingredients, simple techniques, and recipes that have stood the test of centuries. It’s the kind of food that fills you up without feeling heavy, that tastes familiar even if you’ve never tried it before, and that pairs almost perfectly with a cold, well-crafted beer.
At its core, traditional German food is about honesty. No over-complicated sauces, no unnecessary fuss – just great ingredients treated with respect. And that philosophy fits perfectly with the way we cook here at Guidon Brewing Restaurant.
OUR GERMAN MENU – DISH BY DISH
Wienerschnitzel – $16 This is the one that started it all. A hand-flattened pork cutlet, breaded and fried to golden brown perfection, served with Pommes Frites (that’s French fries to everyone else) and a classic German salad. It’s a German staple for a reason – crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and completely impossible to stop eating. If you’ve never had a proper Schnitzel before, this is the one to start with.
Jägerschnitzel – $17 Jäger means hunter in German, and this dish lives up to the name. Same hand-flattened, golden-fried pork cutlet as our Wienerschnitzel – but this version comes smothered in our house-made mushroom gravy, known in Germany as Jägersosse. Rich, earthy, and deeply savory, this is comfort food at its finest. Served with fries and a classic German salad.
Schnitzel Royal – $17 Our third Schnitzel variation layers sliced tomatoes over the top and smothers the whole thing in baked Swiss cheese. It’s indulgent, it’s bold, and it’s one of our most popular dishes on the menu. Same fries and German salad on the side.
German Bratwurst – $11 We serve our bratwurst the way they eat it in Germany – on a small roll with mustard. The roll, as we like to say, is really just a handle. We’ve taken a small liberty by including a side of sauerkraut, which isn’t strictly traditional back in Germany, but our customers love it. Simple, authentic, and deeply satisfying.
German Currywurst – $10.50 A true German street food classic. One authentic German-style bratwurst served on top of a bed of fries, topped with our house-made curry sauce. If you’ve ever walked through a German market or Oktoberfest and grabbed one of these from a street vendor, this will take you right back there.
Giant German Pretzel – $15 We recently upgraded this one – 40% larger, now weighing in at a full 10oz. Freshly baked, soft, golden, and served with a generous portion of our house-made Hefeweizen beer cheese. This is the perfect shareable starter, and it pairs beautifully with just about anything on our beer menu.
THE BEER CONNECTION
One thing that makes German food at Guidon Brewing Restaurant different from anywhere else is the beer. Our Hefeweizen isn’t just something you drink alongside the food – it’s actually in the food. Our house-made beer cheese, used in the pretzel dip and our Hefenly Loaded Nachos, is made with our own Hefeweizen. That kind of kitchen-to-tap connection is something you just don’t find everywhere.
Traditional German food and German-style beer were made for each other. The slight bitterness of a well-crafted lager cuts right through the richness of a fried Schnitzel. A smooth Hefeweizen softens the bold spice of a Currywurst. If you’re not sure what to pair, just ask – our team knows this menu inside and out.
NOT JUST GERMAN – SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE
As much as we love our German dishes, we know not everyone comes in craving Schnitzel. That’s why our menu also includes some serious American comfort food – hand-formed 1/3lb Midwest corn-fed beef burgers on pretzel buns, 10 large chicken wings in 8 bold flavors, a Salmon Burger, a Black Bean Burger, and a full lineup of small plates and shareables.
We also have a dedicated kids menu, a full bar with cocktails and whiskeys, and two private event spaces available free of charge for parties and gatherings.
